• Im not sure this is the right section.. but I was referred here from wordpress.com/forum which apparently is different than here. ?? so below is the problem:

Hey there! I need a little help with my wordpress sidebar… the thing that I’m doing goes like this:

    1. My client wanted a completely custom webpage, so I made it per his request… if you go to the website and look at the green sidebar on the right… You won’t notice it unless I point it out like I am now… the sidebar is actually a part of the background image, and not an image on its own.

    2. I’ve placed completely transparent images over several of the links on the sidebar… the way I “Placed” them was by going into the widgets and using the “Image (Jetpack)” tool to insert my blank images, and then linked the images to the pages that they’re supposed to go to.. (About Us, Store etc.)

    3. Due to the fact that when using Image (Jetpack) it places the blank images at a certain spot on the right hand side of the page… my images are starting to get misaligned with the text on the sidebar.
3A. As in when you mean to click “Latest News” you have to click the option below it almost
So my question is how do I move the Image (Jetpack) to where I need it on the page?

    My webpage is https://www.visualaddictsclothing.com

    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • a 2500*5000px nearly 7Mbyte background image is not ideal for fast loading of your site – I nearly gave up (talking minutes of waiting) and considered the site broken.

imho, not a WordPress problem, but more a conceptual issue with building a graphics menu.

    consider:
    image map,
    or
    css sprites,
    or
absolute positioned empty divs on one single sidebar image …

I’m very sorry, I don’t think you understand that I don’t know what any of that stuff is so, you’re speaking greek to me. xD

Sorry, could you please explain in a more “basic” term what I need to do?

As for the background.. :O How did you find out the size? Also, my client (I’m just helping one of my managers friends with his clothes line website) is requesting very “Customized” Stuff, like you can see on the background… so since WordPress doesn’t allow me to have such customized stuff, I’ve uploaded it onto the background, what’s your recommendations to not have to do that? (As much as I’d hate to have to re-do the background AGAIN) haha

I’d really appreciate the help since I’m a first time wordpress/long time photoshop user. And this client is hoping the site to be done withing the next 30 days.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

duh – you are working at designing or building a WordPress theme for a client’s web site – so you better learn these basics.

this WordPress forum is not the place to teach fundamental html and css.

Well I’m reading about html image maps now, is this what you were talking about?

    https://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/imagemap.shtml

Also, are there any recommendations for the background or anything else?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Alright, sorry for double posting… but I’ve fixed the mega background issue, and now it’s only about 1 megabytes large… so much quicker. Also, can anyone help me with using the image map to place links over certain areas of a page to make it appear that the words are click-able?

    Thanks
