When editing or creating new sidebars, I’m selecting “Page” as the condition, but am not being prompted to choose which Page. This is happening with creating a new sidebar as well as when editing current sidebars (which seem to be working fine.)

    Ideas?

    Thank you for reporting this.

Could you provide a screenshot of what it looks like?

When you first click on the “– Select content type –” dropdown and select “Pages”, you should get a new input field. When clicking on this, a list of all pages should dropdown, and you should also be able to search in it, like this: https://imgur.com/xFv8uZj

This worked just fine in the past. I am guessing it must have a conflict with another plugin? When I select “Pages”, I don’t get the choices of Pages as I did in the past.

Having the very same issue, and would appreciate if you can confirm that it was another plugin that prevented that population of “pages” where you would want to show the sidebar.

    Thanks,

I found that the plugin https://insertpostads.com/ is causing my issues.

Thanks, Mike, for stating that. – My issue might be a rookie error:

Dashborad/sidebars alerts me to this: “Replace: Please update Host Sidebar”

    Working on that now.

Still stuck with not getting a choice to select pages or posts under “Sidebar Conditions”:

Display this sidebar only on content that meets the following conditions:………..[how do I set the values here, i.e. choose the pages or posts to display a particular sidebard].

Is there a guide somewhere, that spells out the “host settings” (are those the legacy settings in the right sidebar of a page/post under “template”?

    Thank you for any input!

Thank you for updating me on this. Could you open a support thread for that plugin and let them know about the issue?

You can link to this thread so we can find a solution, the error is most likely caused by an incompatibility with a JavaScript file.

    @peteraloha

Thank you for reporting this as well. In general, if elements from the Sidebar editor screen is missing, or if clicking buttons/dropdowns don’t do anything, there is most likely an incompatibility with another plugin somewhere.

The “Please update Host Sidebar” message means that the widget area you are trying to replace doesn’t exist. This can happen when you switch themes, delete widget areas, or simply if Content Aware Sidebars checks for it before it’s actually registered (this ought not to happen though). The setting is independent of your theme templates, and you can read more about it here: https://dev.institute/docs/content-aware-sidebars/getting-started/create-sidebar/

Did you recently update other plugins when the problem started happening?

I am having the same problem. I did a recent update of WordPress and a number of other plugins, and that’s when I noticed the widgets were showing up in the wrong place – went to the footer.

Going to the Sidebars, under Conditions, no conditions are set. The pulldown says Select Content Type. When I choose a Content Type no options are available. When I attempt to Update it, it just goes back to Select Content Type.

I did the following to troubleshoot. I turned off all other plugins, and the Content Type when looking at the Dashboard/Sidebars is back to what I had originally set. However, the widgets continue to show on the Footer, not on the selected Sidebar. I thought perhaps I needed to re save it (Update), but that did not correct the situation.

I also have a child theme, and tested it with the original theme, and the same thing occurred, so it doesn’t appear to be anything in my child theme.

I don’t have the message “Please update Host Sidebar”.

The website I am working on is https://www.jamesbishopedwardsguitar.com.

    Joachim,

I’ve deleted and reinstalled the Insert Post Ads plugin and am still experiencing the same issue. Any other ideas?

Did you update to the latest version of Content Aware Sidebars? Try clearing your browser cache and do a refresh (F5) in the Sidebar Editor.

    Joachim,

I have updated to CAS Version 3.7.3 and Insert Post Ads Version 1.3. I have flushed my cache, purged the server cache, and even tried in other browsers. There still appears to be a conflict with the CSS.

I just retested the two plugins and unfortunately I cannot reproduce the problem, so perhaps there is another plugin causing the incompatibility now? Would it be possible for you to deactivate plugins to see if that works?

In @peteraloha’s case, the problem turned out to be caused by a browser extension, but as you have experienced it in different browsers, that should not be the issue here.
