• When resizing (using CTRL+) in Firefox, the sidebar calendar “slides over” the edge into the content area. This occurs in all themes with which I’ve tried it so far, and no matter how many columns there are or in which column the calendar is placed (aside from in the main content column – where it works fine, but that’s never where I want it!) There seems to be no way to prevent this occurring, I’ve tried about a hundred different combos of margin, padding, sidebar width, calendar width, you name it.

This is the simple calendar that’s standard with wp, btw – nothing fancy but contrary to some posts I ran across while searching, I like it…. I use it all the time, but it’s awkward that it won’t “live” in the space assigned to it!

Anyone have any ideas about forcing this problem child to stay in its corner?

  • Did you really set the calendar table width to some fixed pixel units?

    Link to the site?

I’ve set the calendar width using pixels, ems, percentages…. you can check this one: https://netwizardry.net/thematics/ – just now, the calendar is set at 160px; earlier when I posted initially it was set at a percentage. I haven’t tried this one at ems, but have done with others and it’s the same thing.

I see. Tricky, it bleeds over because the sidebar is fixed while the text has to resize.

Solution one, make the sidebar resizable.

Solution two, which is implemented more, just make sure that the sidebar wide enough to accomodate one or two text size increment.

There seems to be no way to prevent this occurring,
    I don’t think so, either.

Yeah, what I figured…. flex sidebar sizing is possible with two columns, far far less so with 3, and a practical impossibility with four. Thanks for taking the time to look!

If I do come up with something, I’ll report back…. but since I’ve been wrestling with this since February, it’s not likely. Also, while I haven’t actully done this with a theme lately, I now recall that even setting the sidebar as a percentage doesn’t help. Oh well. Maybe I’ll have to look for a different calendar utility.

    Thanks again, alphoide!

Alphaoide, thanks. Your statement above about text size jogged some brain cells, the one thing I hadn’t ever tried was specifying font size in pixels. It’s certainly not perfect but it IS materially better now. Further tweaking may improve it as well.

You can actually increase it “3 clicks” and it’s still just within the sidebar area – even at 800×600 (okay, it’s a little “over” at that res, but that’s life I guess).

    Thanks a million!
