• I would like WordPress to stop modifying the .htaccess, and to stop adding extra lines to the template files in between each each real line.

I know my server has rewrite, I don’t need it to check for it every time. I also have setup a caching system, and wordpress has several times almost killed my server by overriding the htaccess for no apparent reason.

As for the templates, 95% of the files are now empty lines. I didn’t even want the single spacing lines to begin with.

  • wordpress won’t touch your templates, unless you use the built-in web-based edit feature, and if you do, its your own damned fault.

… edit the files offline, and upload them by FTP – if you do this, wordpress won’t ever save over them.

As for htaccess, its sort of important for wordpress to check that nothing else you’re running has modified it in such a way as to disable access to your blog.

I understand your frustration, but I’ve personally never run into a situation where wordpress has removed anything additional I’ve put in there.

Others on the site use wordpress’s built-in system, I do not. Regardless wordpress should not constantly increase the size of it’s templates for no reason, it should do the opposite.

My caching system must have rules prior to wordpress’s, and I doubt having rewriteengine on called twice is a good idea?
