Just want to know where I can change the settings so i can set the width of a field

I don’t think there is a setting for the field width. The field width will be controlled by a combination of the various style sheets from your theme and plugins, and sometimes there is overlap, conflict or inconsistency between styles from different sources. With a url, a helper would be able to examine the markup and styles on the page using browser tools and suggest some custom css to improve appearance issues.
