    Hey there!

When I install my feed into Google Reader, it shows up as (title unknown). I have my blog’s title under “Site Title” under “General Settings,” but still nothing.

    How do I fix this?

    Thanks!

  • Can you let us know your feed url?
    It should be https://yoursite.com/feed

    Hey geeksfolder!

    My feed’s url is: https://joatblog.com/feed/rss/

Since including my blog’s title in the “general settings,” didn’t work, I have since removed it. In fact, I won’t be adding it back, because my theme will place my blog’s title above my banner, and it looks really ugly.

If there is another option to fix this, that you could help me with, I would be greatly appreciative. ??

Mmmm… Crab legs…. soooo good. Yummy!!

There are a few different RSS plugins you could use. Or just go to feedburner and set up an account.

    Here are some plugins:

The feedburner form seems to be very popular (4th down on the list, I think).

    Check this out as well.

I think it should resolve your issue ??

@josh, thanks! So i have the feedburner set up and it pulls in my title (yay!).

    1) And now, I’ve run into another problem…when I install the feedburner into my Google Reader, I notice that old gibberish/test posts that were deleted from my site appear also. It looks VERY unprofessional.
How do I get rid of these??

    2) And another question: my feed looks very plain, as it contains no formatting or styling of any kind. A paragraph, followed by a bold subheader, followed by another paragraph, appears all lumped into one giant paragraph with no separation of words, no bolding, anything. How can I make my RSS feed look JUST like the original post?

    Thanks guys!!

How can I make my RSS feed look JUST like the original post?

Short answer: you can’t. RSS feeds are meant to be read by feed readers that may (or may not) add their own formatting. RSS feeds are not web pages nor can they be made to look like them.

    You’re welcome.

I notice that old gibberish/test posts that were deleted from my site appear also.

Have you tried clearing your browsers cache? If you are using a caching plugin on your site, clear that as well. Have you tried using another browser to see what the feed looks like? Each browser may interpret the feed a little differently.

And another question: my feed looks very plain, as it contains no formatting or styling of any kind.

This kind of leads back to your first question. Each browser may interpret the feed slightly different.

One thing you can do to “beautify” your RSS feed is by adding images.

I think any professional who deals with RSS feeds is aware of the formatting, and “deals” with it. If the photo and the text “grabs” their attention enough to want to know more, they will click it anyway to read your full post.

@esmi & Josh wrt to styling: hmmm….I dunno what i’m looking at then. Here’s an example of a site who’s RSS feed looks great: theminimalists.com.

They use Feedburner, which is what I’m using also, so I figure I should be able to produce the same results. Notice when you click on their rss button and go to their feedburner feed page. The post is nicelly separated into paragraphs and subheadings, with subheaders bolded and everything (formatting looks exactly the same as on their site). With my feed, it only shows a summary (which is fine with me), but while it only shows the first couple paragraphs and the first subeheading in my post, it’s all together.
    So it looks like this:
“Hi there. This is an example. Subheader. So, blah blah blah.”
    rather than like this:
“Hi there. This is an example.

    Subheader
    So, blah blah blah.”

@josh wrt caching… I don’t have a caching plugin installed, and I tried unsubscribing and resubscribing to the RSS feed (On Google Reader) on a different computer, but no worky. ??
