Showing product backorder status in cart, checkout, and emails

Hi,

I have a product set as allow backorders, but notify customer. This displays “Available on backorder” under the price on the front end which is good.

Is there a way to also have that message displayed with the product in the cart, checkout and emails that the customer receives? Currently there is no mention of the fact that the product is on backorder other than the product page, which could get confusing for customers.

This functionality seems like something that would be very useful for many people and would be built in if it isn’t already. Maybe I am just missing something?
