Showing latest post like featured

I would like to show the latest post in the same way as the featured post. Actually I don’t need the slideshow feature – just the ability to show the latest post in full width. When ever I write a new post, this must turn into the “featured” top post, while the previously featured post must move into the masonry wrapper.

Is there an easy way of doing this?
