When adding the “submit your review” form, there seems to be no way to set a title – which can be done using the tag method [… title-“Submit your own review”]

This isn’t needed. Simply add a Heading block above the submission form block!

Except I used CSS to make a nice background colour, in line with the theme, for the block, to make it stand out from the rest of the page. So having a separate block means more messing with CSS to make the two appear to merge. As the functionality is in the [tag] version I think it should be in both. Time to try it as a tag then…

In that case, why not use a “Group” Block and put the heading and review form blocks inside it? Then, you can add a custom class to the Block Group and target your CSS styles with that! A Group Block will even allow you to set a custom background colour.

Blocks are a lot more flexible than shortcodes, so it makes sense not to include a title option as this gives you more layout freedom. For example, you can easily change the heading type (i.e. h2, h3, h4) instead of having to use a filter hook to change it (if using the shortcode).

Thanks, slowly getting my head around what blocks (Gutenburg) can do ??

Excellent advice, will do that, and you’ve taken my knowledge up a notch!

I’ll wait for it to go core though, thanks for the heads up!

    Ah, yes…

In the meantime, you can either install the Gutenberg plugin which will upgrade your Blocks editor (I’d recommend doing this, you can deactivate it after upgrading to WordPress 5.3), or you can use the HTML block to make your own faux-group. Something like this:

WordPress v5.3 will be released on November 12th, so not much longer to wait.
