Show the latest posted content on index

Hello,

I am new with wordpress, i have installed this at localhost for just testing and learning purpose. installed Portal theme. everything working fine except content are disappear at index.

for example: i want to show posted topic appearing at index but their are no post or topic to show at index. just slide show showed of selected category.

please guide me how to show latest posted post or page content at index ?

just like at this blog: neelscorner.com all latest post show at index with little content of post.
