Thanks for your question.
This is a subjective issue. We found that a lot of stations are throwing embeddable content or images into the Show Description, which really should be text only. And, we found when they do that, it does not elegantly wrap around the Show meta data. We also found that when stations use this field they end up putting a lot of text the description and that pushes the Posts and Hosts tabs further down the page, so the reader may not scroll and see those features.
To be frank, I really hesitate to allow the Read More to be disabled, because if we do that and allow everyone to just throw whatever they want into a Show description, it makes it seem like it’s our plugins fault that the content is messy and not able to be aligned correctly, even though it’s not our fault.
A Show description really shouldn’t be 10,000 words anyway and I just don’t see why it’s necessary. We want to make our plugin work in an elegant and user-friendly manner and requiring the user to scroll down the page just to get to the tabs for Posts, Hosts, and Playlists just doesn’t seem logical.
If you really have a good use case for eliminating the read more button, I’d like to hear it, but until someone convinces me otherwise, it’s going to stay in place unless we reconfigure the layout so that all the show meta is at the top and the width of the page and then the tabs are below and immediately after. We’d have to provide a new layout switcher template for that because too many site owners might not like that change, so it would be something you might switch to. I don’t know…it’s not on the roadmap but it’s something to think about.
