Hi guy(s), great plug-in. Testing it on a sandbox site before trying it on my own – have two questions.

I am assuming a global custom field filtered by use of tags or lists will be less code and better to use rather than making one for every product? What are the lists in the rules filtering section? Product in list / Product not in list.

Also, is it possible to have it display once a customer select a variation.

    E.g

    Gift set has three variations

    1 – Gift set
2 – Gift set and teddy bear
3 – Gift set and teddy bunny

If I have a custom field like :

Please add your name for teddy’s badge.

.. is it possible to only display it if a customer has selected either variation 2 or 3?

So basically, I’m trying to do two things – I want to be able to apply the same custom field to a select group of products in a category (but not the whole category) – I figure tags can work, but if the lists offer a better way to do it then cool.

& I want it to show only when certain variations are selected inside that product page.

Please let me know if this can be done.

    Cheers.

    – Oh, one last question. My site uses ajax add to cart so I’ll likely need to buy premium, no worries there just confirming that premium will then show the selected option in the cart, checkout and order page

    Hi @waxaddict3

As with many things, the answer to that question is: it depends. If multiple products will use the same fields, it is better to use the field groups. But if all products will have different fields, it will be better to add them on the product itself. Performance-wise, it only becomes an issue if you have a lot of fields over a lot of field groups.

Yes, it can work with variations the way you want to but that would require our paid version.

Thanks for the quick reply – yes the variations and field will be the same across many products. What is the list that is mentioned in the rules? I can add tags to products I want to use the field with, but if list is an easier method that would be cool.

Edit – Also I’ve been playing with test orders, both with ajax add to cart on and turned off, and neither option seems to carry the field data to the order details in the backend, or thank you for your order page – am I missing something or doing something wrong? It shows on cart and checkout, just not after checkout.

It’s a global field, text field. Sandbox site so just three plugs in installed.

Please turn ajax ATC off (that only works with paid) and send me a link so I can check.

I am unsure what you mean with “what is the list that is mentioned in the rules”. Please clarify with a screenshot.

Sure, it’s a wpsandbox site so you can log in with the following :

AJAX ATC is turned off (can be turned on and off in the customize settings of the theme)

Check payment is on for test orders.

There are no fields showing on that product page. Did you add some?

The theme css looks different to a regular input box maybe

Oh haha, yes, I totally mistook that for information rather than an input field.

I see the issue: you didn’t enter a label in the settings. That’s needed in order to add the field to cart/checkout/order, otherwise the system doesn’t know what to add to cart :).

    Ahhh, perfect, it worked, thanks!

Ok, I think I’mma go for Premium & try it on my real site. What was the list btw? This : https://i.imgur.com/Yd4EQk0.png
