Show Only Authors – Too many Available Authors

We have so many subscribers on our site and they are all showing on the list page, they take so long to load that the list I want to add some people to doesn’t load. Can we limit the ‘available people’ to show only Contributor and Author and NOT subscribers? Thanks!
