Show latest uploaded photos on start pages

Hello,

I’m creating a portfolio for a photographer where WordPress is the CMS for the whole site. The photos are separated with different pages (WordPress pages). “People”, “City” and so on. It works well, but I want to showcase the latest … say 20 photos (or even randomly picked photos would work) on the start page.

How would I go about getting those photos on the start page? They are uploaded through the gallery uploading function when you edit the different pages.
