I’m attempting to make an archive index, but there is no “_wp_page_template” as mentioned in the Codex, and I suspect it is hidden in the “Show hidden” link, but it doesn’t work.

Is the script broken? I have enabeled JS in my browser. Is it outdated for 1.5.2?

Yes, but the “_wp_page_template” mentioned in the article isn’t there. At least not present in any dropdown menu.

Your dropdown doesn’t show “default template”?

There is one “Parent page” dropdown, one “Page owner” dropdown and that’s it.

As I already explained, the “Show hidden” link doesn’t do anything. I’ve tried in both Fx and IE with JS on.

vkaryl: Unless you are talking about the Theme Editor page?

Okay. You have first to select the “archives” from the Page Template dropdown, click the create page button, click “manage page” at the top, select the page you just created, THEN you will find the wp_page_template in the custom fields select dropdown.

Nope, vkaryl is talking about another way of doing it: if you have more than 1 (one) Page template in your theme’s folder, in the Page Options there should be a Page Template dropdown to give you the possibility to choose which template you want to use for a Page.

Returning to your initial question, do you have 3 fields in the Custom field section?
    Select (dropdown) – Key – Value ?

    Edit.
I am testing this thing in different themes – and it all works differently. But you have to have a valid archives.php Page template, with all the necessary code at the top.

    moshu,

That was exactly the issue–I had at one point removed the “Template Name: Archives” thing in the archives.php file, because I couldn’t see the purpose of it.

Thanks for helping me solve the problem.

    I’ll learn.

<sigh> so, waste of time and bandwith and nerves… just because you think you know better than anybody else ??

*swats moshu with a wet noodle* There’s really nowhere “handy” to check if you need stuff like that….
