Show excerpt on Homepage

For this you need to change theme code..

Create a child theme and copy content.php
go to line 29.
where it says
<?php the_content( __( 'Continue reading <span class="meta-nav">&rarr;</span>', 'sorbet' ) ); ?>

and change that to

<?php the_excerpt(); ?>

Although it seems unlikely but I would like to ask if there is an alternative way to show excerpts on the homepage with the free template. I mean, without having the hosting and installing WordPress.
