If you check this code snippet you found, it is returning the user avatar:
return '<li>' . get_avatar( $user_id ) . '</li>';

Simply replace it for anything you want

@rubengc thanks for this – I’m pretty ignorant with what to replace it with in order to make a username appear, so any hints are appreciated.

Just, on the example shows the get_user_data(1), of course, you need to change it to get_user_data( $user_id )
