My backup plugin (WPvivid) relies as many other backup solution on a cron job. If no server cron job is added (which is the default situation) those types of plugins rely on wp-cron. WP-cron however, depends on traffic on the site, that means sites with zero visitors won’t trigger wp-cron therefore all tools that rely on a schedule won’t work accordingly.

In my case that means backups of dev/staging systems are not run daily because of the unreliable wp-cron situation.

I think there is a difference whether password protection is done manually via .htaccess and htpasswd OR with your plugin.

Should wp-cron still run on password protected sites when password protection is done with your plugin?

Are there known issues when it comes to PW-protected sites and backup schedules?

    Thanks in advance for clarifying

    best regards
    Markus

  • Hi @markussss,

I hope you are doing well.

Password protected enables password protection on your website. It’s not going to conflict with wp-cron. Yes, You can use wp-cron with password protected enabled.

Thanks .. I thought so as on most sites the backups still performed daily even though they are PW protected with your plugin. Perhaps it’s an individual case then.

    Thanks
    Markus
