• One of my clients is running w3TC on their WP install. The site is rather large and does get ample daily traffic. We are auditing the site for a rebuild later this year and curious how the “One or more plugins have been activated or deactivated, please…” Clear Cache or Hide Message is interpreted.

The reason I ask is that they feel page speeds slow down greatly after clicking, “Clear Cache”. In my mind, that makes sense. If this is causing page speeds to slow after plugin updates, is there any way to disable this feature in the admin section. I would like to prevent someone from accidentally reseting their cache.

  • Hi,

I don’t quite follow what it is you would like to disable, but you absolutely do want to clear your caches when updating, removing or adding plugins since plugins change a site’s behavior.

There are some instances in which clearing the cache(s) can be forgone, if the plugin in question has no effect on the site’s front end, as one example. But, such instances are fairly rare.

To keep the site’s cache warm at all times, you can setup a cron job to crawl the site’s sitemap at whatever interval you feel necessary, e.g. 5, 10, 15 minutes, on the hour, etc.). This way, you never serve a cold page to a warm user. ??

    Best,

This makes more sense now. Thanks for responding.

I will have a cron job setup.
