• Gutenberg may be fine for some websites, but it makes writing blog posts much more complicated and time-consuming.

Classic editor should be the default, in my opinion, and Gutenberg optional — not the other way around.

  • Hi Nick, thank you for trying out Gutenberg and sharing your opinion. Yes, you can always opt for the Classic editor. Have you tried the editor in the more recent releases, and if so, what do you think? Has your experience improved, or do you have some specific issues that you are running into?

Hi Courtney, thanks for your message!

I use Gutenberg for one of my blogs, which is heavier on graphics, and I’ve gotten used to it there. For the other, I prefer Classic. That’s mostly a text blog and I like to code headers, link, etc. manually. I also often move paragraphs, or parts of paragraphs, around there and I find that’s much easier in Classic than in Gutenberg.

So pros and cons. Gutenberg is a good fit for the first blog, but I hope Classic will remain available indefinitely so I can continue to use it for the other one.

Hi Nick, I’m glad that you’ve found a method of editing that works well for both of your blogs!

The block editor continues to be improved upon and a lot of the improvements happen due to community feedback. The team working is always seeking feedback, as well as help in discovering bugs and edge cases. If you run into anything more that you’d like to share, you can let us know here so we can pass it on to the team. Or, if you use GitHub, you can log an issue at: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues.

    Thanks again!
