    Hi folks,

I’m just wondering if the install.php file should be removed after installing WordPress. This seems to be the advice for most php scripts, but I can’t find any info on this for WordPress.

    Hope someone can advise.

    Many thanks,

    Myles

There is generally no need to remove it. It won’t work if there’s already a blog setup on the site.

Right, install.php won’t work when WP has already been installed. However — and I’ve seen this happen several times before — when the WP database gets corrupted and it then thinks WP isn’t yet installed, going to the URL of the blog will cause WP to install itself again. This causes some minor annoyances, such as a new post saying “hello world” and a new about page with the generic content in it, and let’s not forget the WP links in the blogroll.

So the question is, if install.php is removed, will there be any negative effects?
