• Hi, I just recently installed WordPress. I currently have a website and one of my menu buttons says “Blog” which links to my blog. The problem is after reading and looking at a lot of WordPress sites, I am wondering if my whole website needs to be using WordPress rather than just linking to the blog from a menu button.

Q1) If a person’s blog is accessed from a menu button named “Blog” will they get considerably less website traffic than a person who builds the whole website with a wordpress theme?

Q2) If I design my whole website using WordPress I am concerned about the file size. The wordpress folder is 8.9 mb and that is without any of my images and videos etc. Are WordPress websites generally larger in size than normal HTML websites or are they pretty much similar in file size? The file size seems like the only drawback to using WordPress but maybe I just don’t understand?

  • filesize isn’t really an issue….all of the wordpress stuff doesn’t load each time someone goes to your page just the theme and content and stuff

I don’t think traffic is an issue in a subdirectory with proper SEO

How you design it is pretty much personal preference…it can be done either way

Personally, I would use WP for my entire site (and I do!). The benefits are that I can change my design site-wide only once, I can move things around, include dynamic content on static pages, and more.

You won’t have to worry about HTML file size at all – all of your page content is going to be stored in the WP database, and will be accessible and editable through the standard WP interface.

Images and other binary files will continue to be stored on the file system, of course, but you won’t be adding HTML pages at all.

Ok, so for now I will link to my WP blog and then build my whole site around WP later.

I want comments on my homepage, but only on part of the page. Is this possible and how would I do this?
