Should I remove Breadcrumbs for Better Mobile?

  • I would say that if your pages happen to be deeply nested in some sort of hierarchy, then it might be useful to have breadcrumbs to aid in navigation. But if your pages all happen to be on the same level, then having breadcrumbs aren’t that helpful.

    For example, let’s say you have a site devoted to animals. One of your second level pages might be Reptiles, and from that page, maybe the user clicks on Snakes, and from the Snakes page, they click on Cobra to go to the page about cobras. So they would be four levels deep:

    Home → Reptiles → Snakes → Cobra

    So having a breadcrumb would make it easier for the user to go back to Snakes without having to retrace their steps from the home page. It also makes it easier to see where in the hierarchy the page fits in terms of the overall structure of your site.

    Hi CrouchingBruin,

    I see what you are saying.

    If someone uses the search feature, would that reduce the need for breadcrumbs?

    My nesting is pretty extensive, but partially because I didn’t want the drop down menu to be longer than the page…

    And, I didn’t want my Menu to be wider than one width of a page…

    When I look at a mobile page of mine, it just seems very repetitious at the beginning…

    I’m still getting confused between Responsive and AMP. I think AMP doesn’t have breadcrumbs. What I was thinking was Breadcrumbs is actually the page title
