Should I not delete Spam?
-
I don’t use the Akismet thing, as I just simply moderate all comments left on my site, manually designating SPAM as such.
I just have this question: I have just marked the comments as SPAM, and then immediately afterwards deleted them, and my question is – is that wrong for me to do?
My thinking is, that the simple designating them as SPAM, somehow records the info of the sender, and therefore any future attempts from the sender, would be blocked from even being left… or, is that just wishful thinking on my part?
After I mark them as SPAM, should I not delete them, so that it’s info can be stored and referenced to when future attempts from the same info is tried to be left on my site, it will recognize it and not allow it through? Or, is that wishful thinking too, and I am just thinking too highly of what marking comments as SPAM only does, and it really does nothing at all?
I looked up this in the support records, and never found any definitive answer to whether or not to delete comments marked as SPAM, except in one reference where it said not to, so that plug-ins such as Akismet can use them to train themselves… but, again in my situation, where I am just simply moderating comments, should, I, or should I not delete comments after I mark them as SPAM?
Thank you for your time and whatever suggestions you may offer. All the best to you,
JPH
