• My hosting provider said that I should install to the www
    folder.

here’s exactly how they put it:

Files which going to be published at the address https://www.domain_name.com/, place in to folder www.

So I unzipped wordpress, made a folder named www,
and copied all the wordpress files to the folder named www.
Then I uploaded that to my web host.

it did not come with any www folder, only a space
    named “/”.

That’s why I put all the files in a www folder and uploaded that.

An I going to mess this up royally?

  • Did you upload the files to the /www/ folder on your hosting server? that’s what they mean with what they said.

If you look at the directory listing in your FTP program, what do you see?

    Hi,

I didn’t see any /www/ folder. All it had was “/”, and two folders named: domains, and subdom

    That was it.

That’s why I created a www folder on my computer, copied the unzipped wordpress files to the www folder, and am now uploading the whole thing.

    But I’m concerned it’s a mistake.

Look inside the /domains/ folder, and there could be a /www/ folder in there.

If not, it’s time to go back to your hosting company and ask them where you’ll find it. I don’t recognise that folder layout, so it may be the structure that they have set up for themselves.

You’re right, there is a www. folder under domains.

So I will install the files there.
