Should I copy/rename the wp.config-sample folder?

This is my first WP site and I successfully did a manual install yesterday. One of the YT vids I watched before doing the install said to make a copy of the wp.config-sample.php folder, rename it wp-config.php and add the MYSQL DBname, DBuser and DBpassword to this new folder. He said this would make updating WP much easier. The second vid didn’t mention this so I left the folder alone.

Is changing the folder a good idea? Thanks.
