Should I be using multisite or something else?
-
Question: I am currently running a standalone install of WordPress with a very popular blog — last I checked 3000 posts, 360,000 comments. I would like to add a forum for my readers, but want to protect my current databases and keep them separate. I would like to share users. Bbpress is only being supported as a WP plugin right now.
I’ve been researching multisite all morning and it sounds like it’ll do a lot of what I want but in the Codex itself it says:
– “It’s not the best if you want to share users.” –
– And I’ve just found this thread where @ipstenu tells someone else:
“I think the problem is you’re misunderstanding what MultiSite is for. MultiSite is not for making a series of interconnected sites. Yes, it can be tweaked to do so, but out of the box, it’s for managing multiple unrelated sites, like WordPress.com :)” –So if not multisite, what then? Thank you in advance.
