    The plugin stops working properly when Shortcodes appear in product descriptions, such as those used by some themes https://avada.com/Avada Builder

    Then the products do not synchronize with Google Merchant. The plugin should support the removal of these codes during synchronization.

    An example of the shortcode:

    [fusion_builder_container type=”flex” hundred_percent=”no” equal_height_columns=”no” menu_anchor=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_position=”center center” background_repeat=”no-repeat” fade=”no” background_parallax=”none” parallax_speed=”0.3″ video_mp4=”” video_webm=”” video_ogv=”” video_url=”” video_aspect_ratio=”16:9″ video_loop=”yes” video_mute=”yes” overlay_color=”” video_preview_image=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” padding_top=”” padding_bottom=”” padding_left=”” padding_right=””][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ layout=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” border_position=”all” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding_top=”” padding_right=”” padding_bottom=”” padding_left=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” center_content=”no” last=”true” min_height=”” hover_type=”none” link=”” border_sizes_top=”” border_sizes_bottom=”” border_sizes_left=”” border_sizes_right=”” first=”true”][fusion_text]

  • Hi @dachplatten24,

    I understand you are having trouble with the plugin and the shortcodes in your product descriptions. First of all, I want to make sure that you are using the latest version of the plugin and WooCommerce. You can check the plugin version by going to Plugins > Installed Plugins on your WordPress dashboard.

    Secondly, I want to ask you which plugin are you using to synchronize your products with Google Merchants. There are several plugins that can help you with this task, but some of them may not be compatible with the shortcodes from Avada Builder. One plugin that I can recommend is Google Shopping Integration for WooCommerce.

    If you are already using this plugin or another plugin that has a similar feature, you may need to enable the shortcode removal option in the plugin settings. You can usually find the plugin settings by going to WooCommerce > Settings > Integration on your WordPress dashboard. Look for the option that says something like “Remove shortcodes from product descriptions” or “Strip shortcodes from product descriptions” and make sure it is checked. Then, you may need to re-sync your products with Google Merchant Center to see the changes.

    If none of the above steps work, you may need to manually remove the shortcodes from your product descriptions. You can do this by editing each product individually or by using a bulk edit tool. To edit a product individually, go to Products > All Products on your WordPress dashboard and click on the product you want to edit. Then, switch to the Text tab in the WordPress editor and delete the shortcode text.

    Let us know if there’s anything else we can help you with.

    I am using WooCommerce in its latest version 8.5.2.

    I synchronize products with Merchant using the ‘Google Listings & Ads’ plugin built into Marketing in WooCommerce.

    That is why I am writing about it here.

    I can’t remove shortcodes as long as I want to continue using Avada Builder, as shortcodes are required and automatic in it. I would have to change the WordPress theme to another. I might do that, but the ‘Google Listings & Ads’ plugin from WooCommerce should take shortcodes into account and remove them during synchronization.

    Hi @dachplatten24,

    Right now, we don’t have a workaround to eliminate the shortcode. But, if necessary, you can send a short description to Google Merchant instead of a long one using this code snippet: https://woo.com/document/google-listings-and-ads/faqs/#using-short-description

    Additionally, you can consider using a plugin that strips out shortcodes when content is displayed, but this would apply site-wide and not just for the Google Listings & Ads plugin.

    Meanwhile, it would be great to have you add your ideas as a feature request, which is where developers go to look for future plugin features and improvements.

    I hope this clarifies your concern. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

    Hi,

    I have the same problem, I use Elementor and it leaves its tags in the description in Google Merchant. Example

    /*! elementor – v3.14.0 – 18-06-2023 */
    .elementor-heading-title{padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1}.elementor-widget-heading .elementor-heading-title [class*=elementor-size-]>a{color:inherit;font-size:inherit;line-height:inherit}.elementor-widget-heading .elementor-heading-title.elementor-size-small{font- size:15px}.elementor-widget-heading

    I would like to remove it somehow. I’m trying to use the code

    add_filter( ‘woocommerce_gla_use_short_description’, ‘__return_true’ );

    After pasting it into PHP functions, it doesn’t do anything. Should I put this code somewhere else, e.g. in the Google Listings & Ads plugin code?

    Hi @radek90,

    Thank you for contacting WooCommerce support. Since all websites are built differently and run in different environments.
    Therefore, as per our Support Policy, I will suggest you create a new topic so we can assist you separately.

    I appreciate your understanding. ??
