Shortcodes not working

    Hello

    I am very new to WordPress and Jetpack. I have just installed Jetpack in order to be able to embed youtube content and specify the size.

    However, despite activating shortcode embeds, they do not work. I just get a line of grey where the embedded video should be.

    I have followed the suggestions for debugging Jetpack (disabling plugins, changing theme etc) and none of these makes any difference.

    I have searched the web for answers, but they all relate to much older versions of WordPress/Jetpack.

    Help??!

    Hi there!

    You don’t need to use Jetpack to embed YouTube videos – it works automatically without a shortcode and it’s built into WordPress itself. You can read more about this here:

    Simply copy the YouTube URL and paste it into your post and WordPress will take care of the embed.

    Hi

    Thanks but this doesn’t help as I wanted to specify the size of the YouTube video. That was the reason I installed Jetpack.

    I really don’t understand why the shortcode doesn’t work, this seems very basic and yet no one else seems to have mentioned it recently. Perhaps I have missed something obvious?

    You can specify the size on YouTube. On the page where your video is, click share, select the custom size of the video, then copy and paste the <iframe> code they generate right into your post: https://d.pr/i/Spmf

    If you still want to use Jetpack’s shortcode and you still have trouble, can you let me know what site you’re having this problem? Once I have that information, I’ll be better able to help.
