shortcodes icon gone on all WP 3.9 installs

I have over 40 sites and use the shortcodes on a majority of them for ease of formatting.

The shortcode rendering still works but the option to add shortcodes via the visual editor menu is GONE

I checked all sites, and all are down.

This is the EXACT reason why I HATE background updates because WordPress breaks stuff all the time.

How dumb is this that we have to endure this type of updating of the core when it breaks existing sites.??????
