Shortcodes for categories?

    I love Tag Groups! I don’t know what I would do without it, perhaps abandon my blog soon after I started it, as I can’t stand disorganized mess.

    But I need similar features for categories. I understand that the plugin does not support hierarchical taxonomies like categories. I don’t need them managed in “category groups” – they are already in groups, natively, so to speak. But I do need shortcodes that could extract all child categories of a given category, exactly the same way as you extract a list of tags of a given tag group. Something like 

    [tag_groups_category_list append=" ({count})" include=1 depth=0]

    where include parameter accepts a comma-separated list of categories’ tag_ID values and an additional depth parameter (default: 0) controls how many levels of subcategories to traverse.

    There are many tags which I would love to convert to categories, except I don’t want to lose the shortcode functionality provided by Tag Groups!

    @eugenevv Thanks for using Tag Groups. We don’t currently support Categories in all of the layouts. There are some features that can be used with Categories:

    • Alphabetical Tabs
    • Alphabetical Index
    • Simple Tag Cloud
    • Post List
    • Post Filter

    Basically I am looking for an equivalent of tag_groups_tag_list that would work for categories. I don’t see how to accomplish it. If it is currently not possible, please consider it a feature request.

    Thanks @eugenevv. Correct, it’s not currently possible.
