shortcodes and page titles

Is there any way for a short code to alter a page title before the page is displayed, or has the title already been processed/echoed/printed by the time the shortcode logic is called?

I have an extensive piece of logic in a shortcode that I would rather not duplicate in a title filter (that is, call twice, once in filter, once in shortcode)
