Shortcode syntax

I studied the extended documentation (unfortunately very few examles) and found something about shortcodes which lead me to try this on a page: [eo_events category=”wiederkehrend” showpastevents=false]
The result includes past events and events without the category=”wiederkehrend”
What am I doing wrong?
