Shortcode only

(had to open another one so you can resolve them differently)
If i choose to use the shortcode only, i can’t just add it to my template like:
<?php echo do_shortcode('[outdated]'); ?>It’ll be only visible in my template when i choose one of the viewing modes. The problem is, that if i don’t use _just_ the shortcode on my single.php i’ll see the quote in my excerpt every time.
