Shortcode [eme_events] Parameters

I must be missing something basic. The shortcode [eme_events] works fine but I am unable to use the parameters. So for example if I use the shortcode [eme_events next_month] I get the next 10 events, including several after next month. If I use [eme_events all] I get the same list. No matter what parameters are included I get the default list. I tried [eme_event id=21] and I do get the correct event so not all parameters are being ignored, just [eme_events].
