I pasted a shortcode line in a page. After updating and viewing the page, only the shortcode line is visible in the said page and not the expected result, which should be a slideshow (a la youtube window). This is the example of the shortcode line: [houzz=https://www.houzz.com/pro/viridis/espaces-viridis w=300]
I manage another wordpress web and shortcodes work without any problems in that case; curiously, both webs have identical versions of wordpress installed with the same photocrati theme. I’ve tried a WP forum suggestion of deactivating my plugins, clearing the cache and trying to make it work that way, but no dice. is there something obvious I’ve overlooked? Kind of a newby here, so I’m at a loss with this one.

Any suggestions, help or insights would be appreciated.
    Many thanks
    P.

  • as the theme (photocrati) you are working with seems to be a commercial theme please contact the seller for support.

    Thank you for your suggestion.

You could go to support or you can look into filter the content of a the post.

This problem happens for two reasons.

    – Older WordPress version
    – Content not being filtered in the theme

    Hi

Well, I’m running the most recent versions of both WP (and P.crati). So, the suggestion about the issue being a P.crati one seems to make more sense. The unfortunate thing though is that the new P.crati members site doesn’t seem to a have a discussion forum and a search on issues relating to ‘shortcode’ only produces one unrelated item. Not a very helpful situation on their end.
I’m sorry, but what do you mean by ‘the content [is] not being filtered in the theme’?

    Again, many thanks.

Newsflash: Photocrati support says the issue is not on their end? So, I’m flummoxed to say the least.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Although I’ve tried the plugins deact solution, it didn’t work. I’ll look into the other workarounds you suggest.
    Many thanks.

what happens if you switch to the default theme Twenty Eleven?

btw, where did you download the code to create the [houzz] shortcode?

    Hello folks.

Ok, I tried Esmi’s solution involving renaming the Plugins folder. So, in essence, all the plugins were toast at that point. But the result was also negative.
The Support chap at P.crati also recommended deactivating the plugins, but to do a test with the Contact Form 7 shortcode which worked! When I re-pasted my problematic shortcode (printed above), it didn’t work.
I then re-activated all my plugins with the net result of the Contact Form 7 shortcode working.
So, I agree with the person who suggested that it may be a corruption in the generated shortcode I’m trying to use.

Again, many thanks for all your help. This is a humbling experience.

Where is this shortcode coming from?

    (@cafargo)

    Esmi, here it is: https://www.houzz.com/goodies

I might add that the ‘goodies’ page is associated with every members’ account, so the slideshow image files, for example, will be associated with the account member’s content. I don’t know what you’ll see on that page? Pls let me know.

    Thanks!

So are you currently running a wordpress.com site?

I signed out of my account and browsed to the page I posted, and you can still pick any of the default image embedders (if one could actually use this term) to generate an example shortcode.

WP 3.4.2 installed with a Photocrati theme hosted on Godaddy.

Aha! Now the page you linked to on houzz.com specifically references wordpress.com sites – not self-hosted WordPress sites. I’d imagine that you’d need a plugin to achieve the same thing on a self-hosted site and I can’t see any signs of a plugin on the houzz.com site.
