• We are using the Hungryfeed plugin to insert RSS content into various pages via shortcodes.

We noticed that when we do a search on a term that appears on one of these pages only the Static content of the page (Title and one line page description) appear in the search results. None of the RSS content appears in the search results. Results returned for other Posts/Pages include up to 80 words of the content.

Is there something that must be set in order to display content generated by shortcodes?

Hmm, excerpts are passed through the_content filter, which by default should expand the short codes in the excerpts.

Are you aware that Relevanssi only sees the RSS content at the moment of indexing, and doesn’t automatically update the index to match changes in the shortcodes? Can this explain it?

I re-indexed and the result is the same. We have several pages that have a title followed by a one line description of what is on the page (example: Sports(title) the following provides that latest sports information (description) ) This is followed by a shortcode that imports a related RSS feed.

When searching only the title and description appear. None of the RSS data is displayed. We are using the Hungryfeed plugin for RSS.

I thought I figured it out but it still doesn’t work. We have a plugin for excerpts, Custom Excerpts and I thought that was the problem. I deactivated it and I thought that the standard WP excerpts functions was displaying the RSS data in the search results but it was not. It is still the same issue. For posts and non-rss pages the search results display excerpts of the information. For pages with RSS information (as described in my post above) only the Title and description appears.

Well, there’s the chance the Hungryfeed plugin shortcode doesn’t follow standards. Anyway, hard to say what’s wrong with this without closer debugging – if you’ve set Relevanssi to extend shortcodes, they should be extended also in the excerpts.

Does Relevanssi return correct posts when you search RSS shortcode content? That is separate from the excerpts and will help debugging this – is there a general problem with the shortcodes, or is it just the excerpts?

I have Relevanssi set to expand shortcodes.

Relevanssi seems to work correctly in other cases and does find the correct pages on searches of the RSS feeds. The only problem seems to be that it does not expand the information. It only show the Title of the page and the one line description of the feed, which is not part of the feed data and is something we entered on the page.

Well, without seeing the site, I can’t help more – I don’t know why it doesn’t work.

The site is in development so I can’t provide a link but I can email screenshots if you think that would help.

No, that’s not going to be very helpful, and anyway I don’t have time at the moment to give in-depth support for free version users (as you might’ve guessed from the lengthy time it took me to respond).
