From what I understand, the short description of a woocommerce product is also indexed in search engines, so it is better not to use the same short description for different products, right? Because in the short description I used phrases like: free shipping worldwide, 1 month warranty etc.. and I repeated it for each product, but this is wrong, right? Because it would result in the same short description for each product. But since it is information that I want to include in the products, I better insert an image with this description, so the text is not indexed and is not recognized as a copy of other descriptions, right? And how important is the short product description really for SEO? Is it possible to leave it blank too?
For SEO I use the Yoast plugin

    Thanks

  • Hey there, @essai24! Thanks for contacting us.

You are correct, short descriptions are important for SEO and therefore you should not use them to add repeated information. The short description should be always unique and have to do with the product.

But since it is information that I want to include in the products, I better insert an image with this description, so the text is not indexed and is not recognized as a copy of other descriptions, right? And how important is the short product description really for SEO? Is it possible to leave it blank too?

Please note that in general, duplicated images are also not great for SEO.

For more detailed information on what is the best way to proceed and how leaving it blank will impact your website, we recommend checking with a SEO expert or to YOAST support, as they might be able to assist you further with this.

I also found a YOAST guide on short descriptions, you can check it out here.

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help or if you have any questions.

    Have a wonderful day!

Ok, do you recommend me to open another thread in their section and ask for further information? If I want to add information on my product page such as: free shipping, 1 month warranty etc.. which is information that is always repeated for each product, how is it best to do it? To avoid being penalized by search engines. Maybe the same image with the text of that information is better than repeating the same text in every short description?

    Hello essai24?

    Thank you for your reply.

Please note that search engines like Google are quite smart and usually do not consider texts like “free shipping” and “1 month warranty” as duplicate content. These are very common terms and are found on almost all websites that sell products.

You should be careful about “original content” that is borrowed from other websites. For example, copying the long product description from another website and putting it as it is on your site.

For more details I will suggest posting this question at Yoast Support Forum

    I hope this helps. ??

    Best regards.

I opened a topic in the Yoast section, but they were unable to answer me because my question is of an SEO nature and therefore an SEO expert is needed. If maybe someone here can give me a suggestion on how to proceed better, I would be grateful.

So if in the short description, I enter the product name for example “iPhone 10 32GB” + the following list below

    • In stock
    • Free worldwide tracked and insured shipping
    • Power supply (PSU) included
    • No customs duty
    • 30 days return policy
    • Buyer protection

Won’t it be penalized by search engines?
The product name changes for each product, but that list remains the same (in stock, free worldwide shipping etc)
Is it my list of words, does it fall within the type of words that can be repeated for each product?
Or is it better to insert an image containing that list?

    Thanks

Hi @essai24, this question falls outside the scope of our support capabilities, but I’m leaving this thread open maybe someone who has dealt with this in the past can see it and chime in.

I found those resources that may be worth taking a look, too:

    Cheers!

I was thinking, maybe it’s better to add a box under the short description with the list (in stock, free worldwide shipping etc), so it doesn’t influence the values of the short description, or is it the same thing? Even at an SEO level

    Hi there,

An SEO expert is definitely the best person to help out with here; In general – You can think of the short description being that little bit of text shown on search engine results: You’ll want to make a judgment call on whether users would find the mentioned of “free shipping” there helpful (or not).

In terms of adding features/attributes of this product, you’ll want to make sure to list them using WooCommerce’s attributes. For more information on how that works, have a look at the following guides:

Note: Attributes are often used as part of product variations, but they can definitely be used as standalone items to only communicate the features of the plugin.
