Short Codes in Textarea

I am creating a page describing how to use a plugin. The plugin uses a shortcode approach. I would like to put the shortcode in the description, but as I do, it runs the short code as it is suppose to do. Is there a way to display the shortcode, but not have it actually run the short code in this situation, therefore allowing me to fully describe how to use the plugin? I tried to put in the html code for the [ and the ] (ie. [ and ] but as you might know, WordPress will convert those back to the [ and ], which does not help me.
