Shop Thumbnails are Cropped and Square after update?

    Hello,

    I’m helping a friend manage their website and an issue has popped up that was not there before, likely due to an update. The theme used is Enfold.

    The product images added to WooCommerce would previously resize correctly keeping the correct portrait aspect ratio in the store gallery. This seemed to work correctly before but one day when adding a new product it seems like WooCommerce will only use the square cropped (top and bottom) version of the image for the thumbnail in the gallery. The main product page uses the correct image.

    No settings have changed. Nevertheless I went through and checked the following setting:
    – Appearance > Customize > WooCommerce > Product Images
    – Settings > Media
    I’ve made sure that “Uncropped” is selected and I’ve regenerated the image caches but this did not fix the issue.

    If I go into the new product page and change the product image to one of the other product images that were uploaded before this issue started, they show up correctly in the gallery. When I change it back to the correct product image it shows as cropped top and bottom and square.

    I understand the image is cropped.

    Can you please check if this solution works for you? It will need to resize the images to a different thumbnail cropping, and then switch it back to the original size.

    Let us know how that goes.

    Thanks Igor,

    I’ve tried the solution you mentioned and it did not work.

    It seems to affect the “category” images in the main store page here, but not the affected image in the sub-page which you correctly screenshot above.

    Any other ideas?

    Hi Igor,

    Thanks for that but the solution in that link is essentially the same as the one in the video you provided earlier, which I have tried and tinkered with multiple times already and did not resolve the issue.

    It seems the issue arises right at the moment when I select the image in the product page as shown here. If I instead select one of the images from a different product, which I had uploaded earlier and works correctly, it shows up as seen here, which is correct. I have deleted and re-uploaded the affected image as well as regenerated the thumbnails but this has not worked either.

    Hello @papagiu,

    Thank you for sharing the report.

    Can you please try disabling this plugin Force Regenerate Thumbnails as well as switching to Storefront temporarily?

    Make sure to re-generate the thumbnail images after doing so.

    If you’re not comfortable doing all of this on the live version of your site, you can create a staging environment using WP-STAGING.
