Forgive my clueless newbie-hood — I’m still in the very early stages of setting up my shop, with just one placeholder product for the moment. I’d like my shop page to look different from my other “pages” on the site — nothing major, but I’d like to have no sidebars and probably a different header image. How do I accomplish that?

If I can get away with it, I’d prefer for now to continue using the slightly modified theme I’ve had on my business site and blog for several years.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • If your theme has any page templates like “Full Width” you could do it that way and then you won’t have any sidebar. These guys show you how to do that if you don’t have one.

You can totally use your old theme just make sure things are up to date and if you want to customize things you’ll most likely need to add a ton of CSS

Thanks, the link is helpful. There’s just one problem, though — if I go to edit the shop page, there’s no Template drop-down in the Page Attributes section. The only options there are Parent and Order. I think WooCommerce uses its own set of templates, but the details I’ve been able to find so far are way more complicated than I’m prepared to deal with at the mo’…

So in that case you need to create a page template which that link I provided shows you how to do. Once you create that and upload everything that dropdown will show after you refresh. Just follow those instructions to the letter! :o)

So I just downloaded your theme from the WP repository and you already have a fullwidth template in there. Yoko is the theme I’m seeing in your view source.

I went ahead and created a new page called SHOP NEW and selected Full Width No Sidebar.

Then went into WC settings > Products and in the drop down chose my new page. All set.
    Works perfectly

I tried that but once I set it to be the shop page, it keeps reverting to the Default Template. Frustrating….

Do you have some kind of redirect plugin or something? Worked for me. You can trash the current shop page. Make the new one in WC the one you want and see if that takes. If it does then just delete the old one all together or leave it in the trash. Then rename the new one SHOP

I have some plugins, but if any of them have a redirect function I’m unaware of it. When you say make the new one in WC, do you mean using the “Create default WooCommerce pages” function in WooCommerce > Status > Tools? That doesn’t seem to give me an option of templates to use, and I don’t know how else to make a page from within WC. If I make a new one the usual way in WP, being very careful to use the full-width template, then set it as the WC shop page, it then reverts to the default template. Same thing if I try to use Quick Edit (or the full editor) to change the template once the page is set as the shop page in WooCommerce > Settings > Products.

No to the former and Yes to the latter part. You’re doing it right. I’m just not understanding why it’s not taking. Unless, you need to change it in Tools as well. That’s something I’ve never had to do though.

Well, I’ve installed Elementor but haven’t actually used it to create any pages yet. Maybe once I start digging into that I’ll figure something out. Thanks for your help.

That’s a fun plugin. I believe it has a module you can show specific categories, products and what not.

    Have a great night.

I was able to successfully edit the template for the shop page after deactivating the WooCommerce plugin, and the setting stuck after reactivating it. So, problem solved it seems — yay!

    There you go! Rock on!

I’m glad to hear you solved it!

I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
