So this morning I’m getting an error when I go to print a customer shipping label. it goes thru the process, and when it hits the Shipping Rates it throws this error:

Error: The WooCommerce Shipping & Tax server returned: Bad Request Phone number must be provided in the “Origin address” tab.

I have all my plugins updated and I’m not very proficient at this side of the website and would appreciate any help on how to resolve this. I notice some are saying Google Analytics plugin is interfering, but i don’t have that plugin active.

    Any help is appreciated.

For anyone who is struggling with this issue I found the resolution.

“Origin address” is the sellers address, not the customers.

After you click “Create Shipping Label” it takes you to the shipping options popup. At the top (which it usually skips) is YOUR origin address. Add your phone number in there and enjoy printing labels again.

Then you can be like me and feel like an idiot for the next 2 days.

Thank you so much, Wade! I have been stressing about this issue for the last 5 days and WooCommerce hasn’t done a THING to help! You are my hero today.

    Hi @galeschade @wadeharman

Kindly be informed that as of March 15th, 2023, WooCommerce Shipping requires that the origin address contain the shipper’s phone number. This is a USPS and federal government requirement in identifying the individual(s) responsible for shipping a package on behalf of the organization they represent. We must register each user that prints a shipping label through WooCommerce Shipping. If the phone number is not present, merchants may see a message like:

Error: The WooCommerce Shipping & Tax server returned: Bad Request Phone Number must be provided in the 'Origin address' tab. (400)

The error may be resolved by entering a phone number for the origin address as in the screenshot below:

This was added to the plugin’s support documentation on this link: https://woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-shipping-and-tax/woocommerce-shipping/#print-shipping-labels

    Hope this helps!

Can you please advise where in the Woo Settings we can add our Origin phone number so that we don’t have to type it every time we want to print a label. Many thanks.

    Hi @jedkins

    Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that you would like the phone number to be pre-filled already so that you won’t need to type it again every time you purchase a shipping label, correct?

When you purchase a new shipping label and have entered the Origin’s Phone Number for the first time, this would be saved automatically after purchasing a shipping label successfully.

Please make sure that you are using the latest WooCommerce Square plugin here.

If still you are being asked to enter the origin’s phone number after inputting it for the first time, please open a support request for us to investigate further about your issue.

    Thanks!
