Until recently, the plugin had been operating flawlessly. However, after updating the plugin a week or so ago, I’ve been experiencing problems with PayPal Express checkout.

When using Express checkout, shipping costs are not being applied properly and Texas sales tax is being applied to all orders, even those outside of Texas.

It’s really confusing too. When you go from PayPal back to the main site, it shows the proper details (i.e. no sales tax & shows the shipping calculator to determine which option you want). But after processing, shipping costs are removed and the Texas sales tax gets applied.

I just installed an older version of the plugin, 1.1.6.3, and the problem stopped. So it’s 100% a problem with the newer releases.

    Thanks for the feedback.

We have had other similar reports, however, we’ve been unable to reproduce the issue on any of our test servers, so it’s been tough to troubleshoot.

We’ll definitely work to get it figured out and resolved ASAP.

What major changed have been made between versions 1.1.6.3.6 and 1.1.6.3? Because 1.1.6.3 works absolutely fine, aside from the images being served from http instead of https during checkout (which I’ve resolved on my own).

Since you’ve been updating the plugin of late, things have gotten bad. “Guest” orders never used to show up before. I understand that those are incomplete orders that people started in PayPal and never followed through with, but they never displayed in WordPress previously. Why do they show up now? It’s information spam…

Have you tested with just 1.1.6.3 and then straight to 1.1.6.3.6? Did you test .1, .2, etc. up to .6, by chance?

WooCommerce made quite a few changes in the 2.4 update that caused us to make adjustments, so some of what you’re seeing could be from that.

For the Guest orders, can you show me a screenshot of what you’re seeing? Are they automatically canceling when you have those? Typically a “pending” order would automatically update and you’d get an email about it (unless you have the emails disabled).

I think we may have found the problem, although it’s still a little bit tough to troubleshoot.

We have applied a patch to the code that you can download here. Please upload those files, overwriting the current plugin files, and let me know if the issue is resolved for you.

Installing that completely broke the plugin. Now when I click the PayPal Express checkout button, I’m taken to a blank white page saying “Fatal Failure”. I’ve tried rolling back to 1.1.6.3, but that is also receiving the error now…

    Hello!

Just jumping in with a screenshot for the guest orders.

Also, I am having the same issue with the shipping info not being passed along to paypal when a user goes through express checkout. I installed the patched code, and it resulted in the shipping charge being passed to paypal as a line item, however when they continued with the order, they were not charged.

Drew-ninja: I chased the same problem with the fatal failure this morning, and found the problem to be using the wordpress CDN provided via jetpack. No issues since disabling that. Hope it helps.

    Thread Starter Drew-NINJA

    (@drew-ninja)

    @bretcrutchfield: I do not have Jetpack installed/active.

I’m having issues with the shipping since the latest update also. The correct shipping is being charged, but now the shipping line on the order in Woocommerce is showing up as (for example) usps:D_PRIORITY_MAIL instead of Priority Mail (USPS). Also the Shipping address and shipping method are no longer showing up on the new order emails for Paypal Express orders.

@drew-ninja, if rolling back to a previous version that worked before doesn’t work now then something else must be going on. Are you sure you don’t have any caching/CDN plugins or services in place in WP or on the server directly?

@mcarswell, I haven’t noticed that happening with shipping labels. Do you have a flat rate setup or are you using a USPS calculator plugin?

Go ahead a take a look, it was working fine until I added the files you sent me. https://www.airoasis.com/shop. Add any product to your cart then click the PayPal Express Button in the cart sidebar.

Does the plugin make database entries? I have no idea what else it could be. I’ve tested it in every browser: Chrome, Chrome Canary, Firefox, Firefox Developer Edition, and Safari. It randomly fails and then randomly works.

I disabled all caching and we are using Cloudflare, which is currently paused in development mode.

@drew-ninja, you might want to try completely deleting the plugin and then re-installing version 1.1.6.3.4. That’s the last version that was seemingly clean. The 1.1.6.3.5 update seems to have caused the majority of these issues.

Give that a shot and let me know if it helps. I think what I’m going to end up doing is rolling back to that version and then re-merge the stuff in 1.1.6.3.5 that is not causing problems. We’ll have to leave the stuff that is causing the problems out and get it fixed for a future update.

Again, none of these issues are happening for us on our test servers, so we simply did not catch it before releasing the update. There’s obviously an issue, though, so we’ll get to the bottom of it. Until then, though, probably best to stick to the previous version.

If completely deleting and re-installing the earlier version doesn’t get rid of the errors you’re seeing now then somehow the same files must be getting used, which would mean there has to be caching.

    Thread Starter Drew-NINJA

    (@drew-ninja)

@angelleye I’ve already deleted and tried rolling back numerous times. It doesn’t help. ALL caching is turned off. Plus, browsing in Incognito/Private mode necessitates a fresh data pull. Whatever happened really messed things up.

Email me so I can provide you with some credentials to take a look at what is happening in detail: [email protected].

I’m using the Woothemes USPS and UPS plugins. Here is a screenshot of 2 orders, one paid with CC and one with Paypal Express so you can see the issue. https://www.dropbox.com/s/z0bsjttwe082ofo/paypal_issue.jpg?dl=0

The same thing is happening with UPS (e.g. UPS Ground shows up as ups:3)

@drew-ninja, you can submit a ticket here and we can work more directly.

@mcarswell, are you using Payments Pro that comes with our plugin to process the CC’s?
