I sell a variety of products. Some of them cannot be shipped to certain states and the states restrictions vary by product. Is there a way or a plugin that will automatically notify the customer that the order can’t be processed because of that restriction? If there are 5 products in the cart and only 1 has the restriction, the only way to complete the order would be for the customer to remove that item from the cart. Am I making any sense? I hope I’m explaining it correctly.

Is there a free way to achieve this?

    Hi @bellablue1

    Thanks for reaching out.

There are a couple of options here. The first is that you could use Product Shipping Classes to group your select items together, and then you could use Flat Rate Shipping to assign various shipping costs for each class. If some items should not be shipped from within that Shipping Zone, then you would simply not list a price in the Flat Rate cost for that class. What this does is it will bring up a No Shipping Methods Available error message in cart/checkout if an item from that class is added for that zone. If you want, you can use a plugin like Loco Translate to “translate” this string/text even if it’s into the same language. You could change it to something like “Shipping is not available to this region for some of the products in your cart.”

For instructions on how to do this, please see: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-localization/

However, you might be more interested in using something like Cart Notices. This plugin will allow you to dynamically display cart/checkout messages based on the products or categories that are in the cart where you can specify that those products aren’t available for select regions.

Or a combination of the two may work well also!

Please keep in mind that all of our products are backed by a 30 days, no-questions-asked refund policy, so if you decide to purchase the extension and find that it’s not meeting your needs or expectations, you are always eligible for a full refund within that window.

As a last question- are you looking for any plugins that might help you restrict products or are you just using Flat Rate shipping and shipping zones to do that?

    I hope this helps!
