For the life of me I cannot find the answer to this problem. It should be a simple fix, but nothing I’ve tried thus far has worked. Please help!

All I want to do is have two lines of text (without the double space which is why I use SHIFT+ENTER). I want BIG TEXT for the top line and regular paragraph text for the second line immediately underneath. However, the visual editor will not permit this. It retains the same text format for both the first and second line. Apparently, the only way visual editor will allow a font size change is if I hit ENTER and double space down to a new paragraph.

If I have BIG TEXT (Heading 1) as the top line, the visual editor makes the second line Heading 1 text also. Please, please, please someone help. I’m looking for something like the below:

Line 1: THIS IS BIG TEXT (Heading 1 size)
Line 2: small text (paragraph size)

    Is the above possible???

  • The problem is that Shift Enter starts a new line within the same tag, whether that’s an h1 tag or a p tag. You’ll want to look at the css file to decrease the bottom margin of the h1 tag.

Thank you for the quick response. Much appreciated. I’m new to wp and I have no coding experience, so if there isn’t a simple way to create two lines of text (each different sizes) then it’s hopeless for me LOL.

I tried going to the editor for the standard 2012 theme and I am unsure which line of code to alter to disable the automatic double spacing in posts and pages.

    Appreciate your help though, thanks!

I found a quick solution for anyone else wanting to pull their hair out over this problem. No coding necessary. No altering any CSS files or theme files. But it does require the plugin Ultimate TinyMCE.

Ok, so, this is how you create two lines of text each different sizes:

1.) When creating a new post or page you will notice there are two tabs in the top right-hand corner of the visual editor: “Visual” and “Text”. Click on the “Text” tab.

2.) Type in the two lines of text.

3.) Go back to the “Visual” tab, and highlight one of the lines of text you want to enlarge. Use the Ultimate TinyMCE button in your editor that allows you to change the font size and pick a font size of your choosing for the first line of text. You can repeat this step for the second line of text if you want that text size changed as well.

    Enjoy!
