Sharing wordpress link on facebook stopped working

    Sometime in march, possibly after I did the latest update on wordpress, sharing links from my wordpress site on facebook stopped working. Previously, facebook was able to pull one of the pictures from my post and the abstract but now only the link address appears.

    I’ve looked through the forum and tried a couple of suggestions – removing https://www and backslash from url, installing OG meta tags both manually and via plugins and they have all not worked. When I run the facebook debugger, it gives me a 200 response code. Error says “can’t download: could not retrieve data from url”

    Does anyone have any ideas? I am stumped.

    Update: When I use a plugin called “add links to facebook” and that works fine when I use feed API as an option. The thumbnail and abstract shows up ok. Once I change to link API (to get the share button), the thumbnail and abstract disappears. It appears that it is the same problem that is causing the sharing of links on facebook to not work.

    Thanks for the suggestion. I have contacted my webhost to see if they have made any changes to cause this. Somehow I suspect that it may be the coding of the site too, though I cannot ascertain that. Facebook debugger cannot even load the scraped url

    I got it figured out! I looked through more posts on the forum on this topic and someone mentioned something about permalinks. I changed the permalink structure and now it works!!

    What was the change in the permalinks structure, delicacious? Any change or a specific change?
