I’m using JetPack’s sharing buttons and since upgrading to 21.7, each time a user clicks on the share button for Twitter or Facebook or Gettr (all of them), it just brings up the article I’m trying to share in a pop-up window instead of the usual share pop-up.. I just found out from a user. I tested it on Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, and only Safari opened a proper pop-up window to share an article. I’m at my wit’s end and the only thing that’s changed is upgrading to 21.7.

    Hello Boston,

Thanks for using the Yoast SEO plugin though I’m unsure its correlation with the Jetpack sharing buttons issue.

Often, we see problems occur in combination with another plugin or theme. The fastest way to rule out any conflict is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty-Two.

Please test this on your development or staging site if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin has a troubleshooting mode, which does not affect normal visitors to your site.

If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts

If you feel uncomfortable doing this yourself or if this does not solve your issue, our Yoast SEO Premium plugin comes with one year of (technical) support.

Thanks for getting back to me. The problem with switching to a generic theme like 2022 is that the problem only occurs if you’re logged out of the site, so that won’t do me any good. The Health Check plugin’s troubleshooting mode does that for you and only the admin can see the generic browser. It also doesn’t show the Jetpack buttons in that mode. When I’m logged in as Admin, regardless of Browser, the issue goes away. But when I log out, the problem returns.

The Health Check also said everything was good. Site health is good. No conflicts. The problem only occurs if you’re logged out of the site. Since I have “Anyone can register” in General Settings turned off (always have), people can comment freely without needing to create an account.

The link address when you hover your mouse over a button reads: https://example.com/link-to-article/?share=facebook&nb=1

I renamed the domain and url for privacy reasons. This new support system doesn’t allow you to hide sensitive information.

So does the issue happen when you temporarily deactivate Yoast SEO on the affected site?

Yes. I deactivated every plugin, one at a time, and the problem wouldn’t resolve itself. Emptied cache (server and browser) and cleared cookies, to no avail. I finally had to install another plugin for sharing posts on social media. Not a single issue.
