    Hi there,

just as a general note: Yes, Shariff Wrapper works with Gutenberg the same way as is does with the old editor. Currently there is no specific support for Gutenberg, but it should not break your site or anything like that.

There will be a new release with new features and real support for Gutenberg in the beginning of 2019, as soon as Gutenberg is actually stable.

Regarding WordPress 5.0 in general I see it the same way as Yoast does it: https://yoast.com/should-you-update-to-wordpress-5-0/

Do not update to WordPress 5.0 if you do not have the time to thoroughly test it beforehand on a test installation. Chances are high that you will encounter a problem with your site.

Since it is the end of the year and business as well as family and social responsibilities are high, I won’t be able to offer much support on here – especially with anything regarding WordPress 5.0 Gutenberg.

    Cheers
    JP

  • Hi Jan-Peter,
    are there any updates here?
We switched to WordPress 5.0 recently and migrating our meta-boxes to blocks and sidebar plugins.
Do you need or appreciate any help? Maybe as a contribution?

    What do you think?

    Regards,
    Mario

    Hi Mario,

thank you for your offer. Help is always appreciated. Shariff works pretty well at the moment with the standard shortcode block, but of course we have a dedicated Shariff block on the road map for a future release. That will take some time though and thoughtful consideration. Since the current solution and the new one for Gutenberg will need to coexist for a very long time or more specific at least till 2022, everything will need to work and be tested with and without the new editor. So it is more a process of adding support for Gutenberg, while maintaining all the current functionality for classic editor users.

From your experience: What are the most urgent pinpoints to address first when adding explicit block support? Which features do you think are the most urgent ones to add to Shariff?

    Cheers,
    Jan-Peter
