I changed the hostname of my VPS server two days ago and since then several (not all it seems) of the wordpress sites running on the server are acting very strangely.

Sometimes publishing a post deletes a previously published post. Changing the text of posts and clicking save draft makes the changes go away, then sometimes those changes are back again when you re-enter the draft and sometimes they are not.

I thought this was a problem on only one domain and I upgraded WP to 4.1 and deactivated plugins, etc. Then I found that several sites had the same problem and decided it must have been a change to the server. The only change was the “hostname” which I changed in WHM.

  • Have you rebuilt your Apache configuration to see if that fixes the problem? If you go into Apache config and then save with no changes.

I’ve never seen this behavior with cPanel. It shouldn’t delete other user’s database information (their posts).

Try to repair the Database of any one of the affected sites. If that worked, then repair all the databases on the server:

    mysqlcheck –all-databases -a

Thanks for your responses guys. After a lot more research we figured out that it was a caching problem. Specifically google page speed was operating on the wp-admin pages and causing strange results whenever drafts were saved. So I turned it off for /wp-admin/*
