I want to have multiple wordpress installations (different domain names, same host) that access data from the same database tables. These tables are not core wordpress tables – they would be part of a new plugin.

I’m sure this is possible – but just wondering what the best method would be. Would using Multisite be needed/beneficial?

Multisite -can- do this, it’s just calling info on a shared DB table. It’s not required, though. As long as the plugin can talk to the right DB and tables, you’re fine.

So just to clarify: there is no need to use Multisite in this instance; I just need the database tables to be accessible by both installations (I assume that would be a requirement for Multisite as well). As I’m not hosting the sites I’ll have to check with the host whether it’s possible…
